Christmas Mantel

There are a few things I love about our house.  The fireplace and is one of them.
I am constantly romanticizing the stack stone facade, dreaming about being cozy up to a warm fire in a cabin far far away. I love that the fireplace is the center piece of our cozy family room.

Since it is our first Christmas in this house, I feel as if I am ill equipped to fully decorate for Christmas this year.

I searched thru our still packed boxes of Christmas items, tossing aside the ever old icicles lights, choosing to forgo the ceramic Christmas houses, and completely forgetting about the grapevine reindeer that constantly falls down like a drunk solider.  After an hour, I finally had the plan.  It comprised a bit of budget, a bit of gathering, and a lot of what we already had on hand.

The old barn wood frame has been a mainstay on our mantel for months.  I bought it at an estate sale for 4.00!

The lady who sold it to me was emptying out her aging parents home transitioning them to an assisted living.  According to the daughter, last summer her father decided he was going to learn how to make picture frames.  This frame was the first and the last he made.  I love that it is handmade.  I love that it is wood that he took right off the side of his own barn.  I love the fact that it has a story.  Long term, I have to find a solution for this frame.  It is beautiful.

Wooden beaded garland - Target after Christmas sale ( I have tons)
Glass Hurricanes - Willow House (another steal of a deal)

White wood candle holders - garage sale (4.00 for the pair)
Little letter C - Pottery Barn Outlet (4.00)
Little collection of rocks - some from the back yard, some from travels, just memories of good times or days.

The wicker stars are my favorite.  My mom got them in Switzerland and they are the most lovely thing on mantel.  I honestly adore anything Swiss.  I am Swiss.  I love the simplicity and naturist beauty of Swiss items.  These stars are possibly one of the best presents my mom has ever given me.  I should keep them out all year.

Hello Monday

Hello Monday!

Hello to crazy shopping outfits and self expression.

Hello to a messy house but a fantastic boy who stepped up to help out while dad was out of town.  Didn't even need to ask.  He has an amazing heart.

Hello to fantastic boy catching crazy creatures in the creek and bringing them home for me.

hello to this little one thinking (for some reason) that Journey to Bethlehem was really going to the restaurant Buffalos?  She was happy when she saw the animals.

Hello to a ton of people.

Hello to the Roman Guard who willingly admitted that his shield was a Pinterest Project.  The fact that he had a skirt and sandals on while he said this made it particularly funny.

Hello to actually enjoying life with a preteen - she is pretty awesome!

Hello to the prettiest thing I saw at church.  This sweet little dove.  Love.

Hoping to say hello to a finished shopping list, a finished monogramming list, a little bit of quiet time at the sewing room, and hello to looking forward to time with friends.

Hope you have a week of great hellos too!

Christmas List

I write this post every year just hoping, really praying, that just ONE things might pop off of it.  Can't say that has ever really happened - but a girl can dream right?

So hold your seats folks, here it comes.............

Heather's Christmas Wish List 2012.

A dress form.
I would love one in my studio.

Speaking of Studio....
I have worked on the dining room table, out of a converted closet, my own room in a unheated basement to now sharing an "office" studio with the rest of the clan.
I would like to move myself to the "nook" in the heated basement.  Alone, yup - let only creativity find me there.  And I would like for it to look like this.

And while I am hiding in my creative space, I would like to be wearing this.

There is a time I would like to create something new, so I would like this to learn from.........but I already bought it - ekkk. (to my credit it was a super deal one day sale)

Besides that,
I would love a weekend alone
A ticket to Blissdom 2013
A opportunity to run another 13.1
A chance to to see some crazy ideas come to bloom.
Time to love on my kids, my husband, and my dear friends.
